I’m amazed at how the city of Portland is really embracing OSM. Would love that kind of support up here in Seattle :)

ODbL

A perfect example of the OSMF confusing its users. I for one was under the exact same assumption as Skippern was. This whole process really should have been made more clear.

And yes, I will be glad to be able to finally do some real mapping instead of remapping, but I’m sure I might have to spend some time cleaning up the mistakes made by myself and others during the rush to eliminate red ways and nodes.

Large amount of coastline added by user who has not agreed to the new license - what to do?

@chriscf, what you just said is exactly opposite of what I originally thought. I added the odbl=clean to coastline ways where another user (who had accepted the license) had improved on the lousy PGS import data, but I didn’t know I could slap this tag on things they originally added. That makes sense because the data that they added wasn’t really theirs.

And the fact that the odbl= clean tag was added to administrative boundaries created by the same user gives us all the more reason to tag coastlines as such.

@chriscf, is that really so? If it is why didn’t the OSMF tell us that?!

Dang only 2 1/2 hours left before they servers go into read-only mode. Better get working!!

I hope that at least there won’t be glaring issues with the map after all the stuff that’s incompatible with the new license gets deleted. I really hope someone at the OSMF will review our progress. Speaking of the OSMF, they really should have been on the frontlines helping us with this transition.

Lots of of talk and not much action, it seems. This really is a big issue and there has got to be something done about it soon!

license changes

Well, at least it’s better than nothing; that’s for sure!

Hello world! :) - work done so far...

Wow congrats on getting the whole of Croatia done. I’ve barely started my city!

Is there an app? Who's doing the app?

Yeah so basically there already is an app for OSM on iOS and Android. There are people who had the same idea as you, to be able to edit anywhere…

Procrastinating on remapping -- Help Wanted

Ok fine, I won’t use the undelete thing anymore.

For the most part, with most of the roads in Seattle the mapper did not add them. They were added from a TIGER import, and by a user who has accepted the license (for very good reason, otherwise all the roads in the whole US would disappear). So usually the editor did not actually add the road; they might have modified it, but yet I might as well redraw the road entirely. As for buildings I’ve identified some by a user who hasn’t accepted the license that I might as well re-draw anyway and yes that’s gonna be a pain. Sigh…

But if I just focus on the major ways and redraw them (making sure I don’t mess up any relations in the process), it hopefully won’t take that long.

Potlatch2

What’s not working about Potlatch 2? Could you be a little more specific and tell us exactly what is not working? Thanks!

Procrastinating on remapping -- Help Wanted

@chillly the problem with the username “Sunny” is that it’s so generic that you get so many irrelevant search results. I’m just going to remap the area: it’s not a whole ton of work, and shouldn’t take that long :) At least I hope so…

Also would you guys recommend deleting all the “bad” ways and then using JOSM’s Undelete plugin to re-add them? This is how I imagine I might do it. And of course, I’ll ask other ppl in my area to help too.

Procrastinating on remapping -- Help Wanted

Yes there is one person who I have tried contacting twice already, his username is Sunny. He’s made a lot of edits in the area; if he doesn’t accept, then everything of his goes poof. I’ll try and send him another message, but I think my efforts are futile…

I try to save part of Omsk'map

Can someone confirm that the license change will take place on April 1st? That is what I’ve heard, but is that correct?

Map key?

@Chriscf, I had no idea there were “test environments” on OSM. Does that mean that there is a sandbox map?

Map key?

His point is the map key really needs to be updated.

I’ve been on this project for almost two years, and the map key looked exactly the same back then as it does now. Yet some of the map features on Mapnik (such as military areas as well as nature reserves) look different now compared to two years ago. So yes I agree that the map key really needs to be updated.

Green River, Wyoming, USA

Why does TIGER make Wyoming look like it has a ton of roads everywhere?! That’s not true; Wyoming is still the “wild west” and shouldn’t have that many roads displayed. You should go through and change these to tracks, (unpaved roads) as that is what they really are. Also add some ref tags to I-80 (like this: ref=I 80) so that it will display on the map.
