Now, as far as I remember from driving that road weekly for most of a year, and not getting my feet wet, I'm guessing the lake was done from Landsat, and the road from NPE. The lake is a reservoir that's been there since 1976, according to Wikipedia. What's weird, is that the road was drawn in AFTER the lake. It obviously never occurred to the original road creator to check what the area he was drawing across actually was.... :-)
I've used Landsat and memory to reroute the road around the lake - map will update on Wednesday so this post will make little sense afterwards...

Hmm, I know that area very well. I used to go up to Llyn Brenig a lot - although not for quite some time.

I think you can still access the road all the way up to the edge of the lake - where there is now a car park - but the B-road curves north to avoid the lake.
