My Area, 100% complete.

Posted by cw1998 on 8 May 2012 in English.

It took a while, but I finially got there, every road and near enough every POI in my area has been added in, the map was blank here a few months ago.

I hope these maps will come in useful for somebody some day!

osm.org/?lat=54.4546&lon=-6.2924&zoom=13&layers=M From this link you can see what I have mapped, all the major roads were already there when I joined so I’ve added in all the residential roads and a few of the minor roads.

Congratulations! :-)

Reminds me that there are still some roads missing in my area, gotta map ‘em all…

Great job, but I wouldn’t call it 100%

When I started with my village, also a lot of minor roads were missing. But now I have this: osm.org/?lat=50.9389&lon=3.0652&zoom=17&layers=M

I know this can’t be done in 2 months time (I’ve been working for over 2 years on it), but there is always more work to do in OSM.

If you want to see big areas (more than one little village of me) with great quality data, you probably need to look at Germany. osm.org/?lat=50.937821&lon=6.944208&zoom=18&layers=M

Good work, especially considering there doesn’t seem to be much aerial imagery available. Is it all from GPS surveys?

Some suggestions: You could check that area on Keep Right, it highlights a number of possible errors: http://keepright.ipax.at/report_map.php?lat=54.4492&lon=-6.33111&zoom=14 Also try using the JOSM validator.

eg I notice there are some untagged nodes, and some overlapping or unconnected roads. And some strange tagging, eg you have tagged all of the school area as building=yes, when presumably it is not all a building?

Also I notice the school/church etc are mapped as an area and a node. You should just have one and not the other (preferably an area). See osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element

@vclaw yes, all of the roads based on GPS recordings from my phone. And a notebook to write down the street names. No it isn’t all building, not sure what tag to use there for school grounds.

@sanderd17 thanks, I will try to add as much detail as I can to the map when I have free time.

@vclaw I had a look at the link you shared, that’s really great! But i have no satellite imagery to judge the size of buildings. Otherwise I probably would mark out all the buildings. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
