A Tidy up and more back roads

Pubblicatu di cybercrypt lu 19 July 2009 n English

I start this entry with a question..
Is there an Auto conversion of Mini roundabouts to a drawn round Way? or is someone converting them manually? I noted a number of Dalby "Mini roundabouts" have been either converted to Diamond or hexagonal shapes.. With a couple of the intersections deleted completely with HOLES in the affected ways on the map.

I hope that this isn't happening else where.. It is very disappointing to spend months improving the accuracy and detail on this area.. only to have a a script or new feature destroy the work.
I am sure it wasn't a person, as many try their best and at least fix their errors.. scripts are neat but not smart..

My next feat will be to get the tags all correct.. Have only been focusing on getting the ways down.. prob should have started with putting it all down first.. oh well.. the devil is in the detail..

Someone commented after my last entry about the back roads.. being a difficult or not a quick and simple task.. NOT WRONG THERE.. 2 weeks and I am lucky to have surveyed 10km in the local area, and the same in the western areas of the shire.

You could use the new map history feature to find out who made a particular change; even if it was made by a script there should be a human being answering the mail. If to many "large" changes cover the area to find the user changing a small feature, use the element history provided in the data layer of the map.

I'm not aware of any scripts doing this. I've converted the last in my area into nice 12 point roundabouts - I draw one and then copy and paste in JOSM, which incidentally reversed the direction of the way.

Are they really mini-roundabouts? If so, whoever’s done this is not only breaking routes, they’re making the map less accurate representing roundabouts.

Why not contact the person concerned. The one on Edward Street and on Patrick Street was done by user Rosscoe (use the data layer to find out). Even if the roundabout were correct, leaving the old mini roundabout or even road across the middle can't be.

You can convert non-round roundabouts to round ones by selecting them and pressing "T" in Potlatch.
