Use of OSM Data

I am a newbie.
I am using a Garmin GPSCSx for track collection. No problems there.
What I would like to do is to transfer OSM Maps to my Garmin so that I can see what
data needs to be collected without referring to the OSM internet data.
Question: Can it be done and if so how???

And for the lazy type like me, download the needed map from http://www.asmweb.de/OpenStreetMap/Europe/index.html
and use the img2gps program downloadable from
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mdipol/img2gps/
to transfer it to a Garmin GPS.
