Stadt Grimmen unterstützt OSM | Ich bin Eifersüchtig. Kaum einer hilft in meine Einflussbereich |

This looks interesting | Again Welcome!. As a newcomer, please check your edits with http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=geometry and http://keepright.ipax.at/report_map.php?db=osm_EU&zoom=14&lat=48.20808&lon=16.37221 Be careful when editing other contributions. Please read about osm.wiki/Relation and Especially relations can easily be mutilated by newcomers. If you feel you need advice/help ask here. The community is very responsive! And have fun. It is addicting! |

Love! | No need to add to the above advice. As a newcomer, though, please check your edits with http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=geometry and http://keepright.ipax.at/report_map.php?db=osm_EU&zoom=14&lat=48.20808&lon=16.37221 Be careful when editing other contributions. update | OSM allows you to do just that which you want to do. Leave the rest to others who like collecting addresses, etc. So get on with it and have fun! |

1,074,201 things to do for OpenStreetMap, literally. | Great work, lads (and Ladies if any are involved). I have a street connected to an area=yes; highway=residential which is connected to a street. All have the same name. Is this an mapping error or a false positive? |

Can someone explain this routing problem? | To NE2 I recalculated the route once again just now. No purple overlays. Unfortunately I did not take a snapshot of these purple overlays yesterday. It is just like your original post. NE2 registered something odd, iandees check and found nothing. Very strange indeed. Anyway it is a very good tool and it should be accessible from the OSM Home Page, don’t you think? |
|
Can someone explain this routing problem? | This is a very interesting development and it works! I tested it from Bonn, Germany to Croydon, England. It is very usable! What I noticed is that the were a number of purple overlays which seem to indicate that a OSM data error hinders the correct routing. Is this so? Should I, as a contributor, try to correct these “errors”? |

Public perception and predjudice... | I agree with all the above statements but one in particular is worth a double mention. “Lastly I mean no offence to any of the hard working people that have worked on the Mapnik renderer or the style sheets for this website”. Posted by ca_hoot Obviously a debate is needed on how to present OSM to newcomers who want to use the data for the own purposes. We who contribute to the DataBank are not relevant when it come to the introductory page. The thing is, I don’t think that this Blog-Page is the right place to discuss/debate this issue, but I don’t know where to go to start a debate! What I think may be a better approach would be to have something like this: What would you like to see? and using ICONS Street map Routing Cycle map Rambling map Addresses POIs Public Transport Terrain Contribute to OSM DataBank etc. The ICONS would then link to the best website providing this service. |

Fields & Hedges | I too agree with your thoughts. I, however, do not know how to tag certain barriers like a line of trees: In fact it may not even be a barrier as you can go through the line. Another tag I can’t find is one to map a grass verge, i.e. that area that may separate a field from a hedge, road, etc. I suppose landuse=grass will do the job well enough. But what do you do when a verge has been planted with bushes? natural=scrub does the job but it is not natural, is it? |
|
Well, that was quite a stump ... | Not only is the iPhone useless as a mapping tool, my newly acquired Samsung Galaxy is just as useless. If I am in an area of low population the inaccuracy can be up to 1km and in some cases I have no position data at all. As you say your faithful 60CSx does it all the time. So does mine! |

Lizenzwechsel - warum wurden Punkte gelöscht? | Ja, die Daten sind unwiderruflich verloren. Sehr frustrierend für uns alle!! |
|
Sydney redacted | What of those who actually use the OSM Data. They will have to revert to some other source for their maps until the OSM Data becomes useable again. Some may never return! It is actually up to the Sydneyians to get their act together and remap the whole area. To begin with, wouldn’t Bing imagery be useful to map the main arteries and then go out surveying to get the details? |

Wege doppelt? | Oops!!! Bitte OSM-Bug als erledigt markieren. |
|
Wege doppelt? | Ich habe o.a. Bereich mittels JOSM angesehen. Weiter so. |

iBlue BT 747 a+ | Willkommen bei OSM. |

New layer at KeepRight.at -> doubled places | Thank-you for mentioning keep-right. It is a very useful tool. All contributers (both old and new) should check their work (and that of others) using keep-right and: http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/ OpenStreetMap-Inspector (OSMI) is another powerful tool which helps us to raise the quality of the OSM-Databank. Check it out, use it and don’t have any qualms about correcting other contributions: We are not competing against each other but giving up our time for the benefit of all! One word of warning, though; don’t change complex structures that you don’t technically understand or don’t have the local knowledge to correct: Contact the contributer in question (i.e. the one with the longest experience within the area in question and ask him/her to look at it. It usually works this way but you might get a rude answer back. Don’t worry, be happy, leave the problem for someone else to solve and move on. There is still a lot of work to do! |

Cheshire Cheese pub meet-up a while back | Don’t knock the armchair mapping too much. It depends on the imagery available. For an example of excellent up-date-imagery see BING for Portugal. It is from 2011 and extremely detailed. My GPSmap 60CSx is nowhere as accurate as Bing. Local knowledge is still essential for the POIs and of course the only way to tag properly is doing proper survey work. I caught one guy who declared paths as highway=unclassified in Portugal but he did not understand the error of his ways. That is not a pun! I only wish I had such imagery available for my home area. Here the Garmin still comes into its own! |
