Just noticed wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:source suggesting the changeset should describe the source of the change rather than every object. I’ll reduce the number/type of objects in my changesets to make it easier to relate the changes to the changeset description/sources.

Alternative ? Add the source key to each object, particularly if others might change the object due to out of date imagery.

I am not adding source=* to any object, except in unclear situations.

My understanding is that adding the source to the changeset, which is possible in most modern editors, is totally sufficient. You can also use multiple sources in a CS.

According to the wiki “With modern editors, the source=* tag is typically added to the changeset when a change is made, not as a tag on a piece of information which may be updated at different times based on different sources.”

Historically as far as I know, adding the source to the CS was technically not featured in the early days of OSM, therefore it was added to the object itself.

As an example this CS has multiple sources: osm.org/changeset/71824348
