Just joined - hope to learn how to use this. First problem - can't fiqure where it allow me to set my home map - it says I haven't done it, but doesn't give me a place to do it!

Welcome! Once you've got your home map sorted out, I would recommend the next step is to read the Beginners Guide on the wiki:
osm.wiki/Main_Page
Although it might seem a boring way to start when you just want to dive in, the minutes you will spend on this might save you hours later!

Ratfink, thanks for the help - I did have that box checked, but still no map comes up - the area where the map should show remains blank. When I later go to [View], I can call up a map, but that map won't show in "My Settings" view for some reason. So far I've tried this in Firefox and in IE 8.

Davespod - I'll try to restrain myself and do what you've suggested - you're correct that I like to "just dive in" as I usually do with most things, esp. on computer.
