More Changes

I’ve taken the last few days to edit and Add to the offroad tracks in my local area. Why is there a 2000 point limit to tracks. This limit should be raised to at least 10000, if not 20,000 for lakes and such. Its frustrating that I have to create lines going right thru the middle of the lake to make it show properly in the OSM viewer…

You do not need to make one long way to cover one track(road). You can make several shorter ways that are connected to each other and have same tags. Also most tracks have different road conditions in different parts (see: tracktype)

For big lakes you can use multipolygon relations. Basically you make several ways around the lake that are connected to each other. Then you make one relation that has these ways as members and add needed tags to relation.

You can read about multipolygons on multipolygons page One example of lake that is created using multipolygon relation: Harku järv

PS! Realtions may be hard to figure out at the beginning.

Good luck mapping!

I’m not worried about the roads… Its more the Flaming Gorge. It doesn’t show up properly until I create circles of sections of the lake. If I go over 2000 points, the limiter kills the change. The Multipolygon relation is NOT WORKING AT ALL! The relation was set up Before I started adjusting things. The lake showed in the editor, but not in the Viewer until I’ve started the Circle Process. Its just a BIT Frustrating!

If you give me a ring on skype (username andrewbuck40) I can help you with setting up the multipolygon relations. I converted the section of the Green river you traced a while back to a multipolygon relation when I extended it through the town. A relation for a lake would be identical to the way the river was done, the only difference is a lake should have natural=water instead of waterway=riverbank.

All the outer shores of the lake should get a role of ‘outer’ and any ways that make up islands should have the role ‘inner’.

Ahh, after looking back through the history on that relation, I see where the problem was. Until I added it, that relation never had the tag “natural=water”. All it had was a name tag, so of course it wouldn’t display on the map. The renderers had no way to know what it was. I’m surprised no one ever realized that and fixed it. Anyway, now that it has the correct tags, it should work if you remove the lines you added closing each individual way. I know this, because it displayed properly after I edited it. For a multipolygon, the tags almost always need to be on the relation and not on the member ways.

I am not sure if this is how to ask a question of Alester. I see you edited the Amigos trail not too long ago. I am hoping to get more info on this trail. Would like to do a loop trail and perhaps find the trail up to Mcdonald. Are there creeks that are difficult to cross? Thank you. Esther
