It is to do with the navigation tools that use the maps. For example both Organic Maps and OsmAnd~ would instruct to take a left when it means to stay northbound on Victoria Drive. With this change it is fixed, and no instruction is given when traveling northbound.
I only do this in areas where a split road combines at an intersection, as that confuses the navigation tools.

Is there any particular reason for doing so? From what I have found so far almost universally, bus stops are mapped separately from the sidewalk.
If you have a use case for that, I would like to hear back from you.

In the iD editor, it warns that having a place (ie. hamlet) attached to another way is deprecated, and should be extracted.
