Hello Kovoschiz,

Thanks for the quick and detailed response. It is interesting to learn about the numbering of junctions and crosswalks. I noticed on taginfo (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/traffic_signals%3Aref#values) more of them that are tagged with `traffic_signal:ref=` in Hong Kong. Would you like me to go ahead and edit those four ways I mentioned earlier?

Hi Kovoschiz,
I noticed you added junction:ref= NT405 to osm.org/way/158584374, osm.org/way/158584309, osm.org/way/158584377, and osm.org/way/524742248. Based on the Key:junction:ref wiki : osm.wiki/Key:junction:ref that tag combination should be used for exit numbers. Is there a reason you decided to use this tag? I also noticed osm.org/node/6705213952 has the ref=NT405 information on it and was curious what it refers to?

I understand why you made them trunk. It was to show a difference between importance. Adding motorway and motorway_link does the same thing. I did this because this is one road and having classifications match makes sense. Having two different classifications for different lanes of the same road can be confusing. Additionally, the access tags you added and that were already there will influence any router when providing a route for the customer. Let me know what you think.

I noticed you just started mapping in Singapore. Thanks for mapping! The roads entering and exiting the checkpoint are motorways. Motorway and motorway_link were used to distinguish what does and does not have motorcar access.

It looks like you didn’t attach the link you meant to. I was only able to find this wiki page: osm.wiki/Proposed_features/motorway_junction_Extension that says it is abandoned (inactive) not deprecated. Per this wiki: osm.wiki/Category:Proposals_with_%22Abandoned%22_status it states "Note that popular tags in active use may have abandoned and inactive proposals”. I was specifying adding “ref:left=9C” per the motorway_junction wiki: osm.wiki/Tag:highway=motorway_junction#Example which recommends it as an option. The motorway_junction page was recently edited in August of this year.

I agree the highway junction, 9C, could be ambiguous in this situation and the best solution would be to specify “ref:left=9C”. Related to this issue, I believe “ref=KPE” should be added back to these ways if they are to remain classified as motorway.

I did not make this connection - I changed the access tag from permissive to private based on OSM policy. If you look at Maxar Standard Imagery you can see that this connection does exist.

I think using the existing Moldova roads wiki will work best: osm.wiki/Moldova/Drumuri. Here is an OSM wiki page that explains how to edit OSM wiki pages: osm.wiki/Wiki_Help. The Moldova policy page can be written in any language and people can translate when they are on that page. What do you think?

Ukraine: osm.wiki/Uk:Key:highway#.D0.97.D0.BD.D0.B0.D1.87.D0.B5.D0.BD.D0.BD.D1.8F
Denmark: osm.wiki/Da:Map_Features#Veje_.28highway.29
Russia: osm.wiki/RU:Highway_classification

I think these are great examples and can be used to create a solid policy page for Moldova.

I looked through the Telegram group and found discussions on classifications based on ref tags. I think it would be helpful to solidify a policy and add it to the Moldova OSM wiki osm.wiki/WikiProject_Moldova or osm.wiki/Moldova/Drumuri. This will prevent future confusion for new mappers in Moldova that might use the global OSM policy or one of their own. What do you think about adding policy to the wiki?

Based on osm.wiki/Moldova/Drumuri only M-routes or express roads should be Trunk. Is there a local policy documented somewhere which indicates L-routes should classified as tertiary or secondary only?

Thanks for responding so quickly! I also agree that the roads classification should be determined by the roads importance. My interpretation of the page you linked is that highway_links at road junctions carry the same importance as their highway designation (e.g. highway=trunk_link is the same importance as highway=trunk), and that the ‘_link’ is used to indicate a physically separated turning lane. Assuming that their importance is the same, would you agree that these slip roads/ramps are best modeled as trunk_links?
