Standard practice for unknown buildings

freedomjosh님이 English로 2023년 10월 17일에 게시함.

Hi, I use Street Complete a fair bit and it often shows up buildings with their areas drawn and asks what type of building it is.

But when I map some areas, the online editor won’t let me close the save set without having features for each area. If I choose generic “building” I don’t think StreetComplete is asking me anything at all, as though it has been settled.

So what’s a default feature for an unknown building (or unknown area for that matter - some bright white objects are very hard to tell if concrete, on the ground or a roof.) ??

Hi, Josh.

Slightly confused, how is StreetComplete forcing you to add information? If you don’t know the info, or don’t want to add it, don’t.

When you say ‘online editor’, do you mean ID? With an online editor, I suspect you would draw a new ‘area’, then label it, eg “building=yes”.

Have I understood the situation correctly?

Thanks,

Hi Chris thanks for your reply

My example of StreetComplete was that a previous person added an area and left information they didn’t know. StreetComplete then is interpreting that and asking me to fill in the information. This is expected and desired behaviour

I am asking how the previous mapper left that information. I guess with more information, my question is now; when I add a building using iD as ‘building=yes’; does StreetComplete ask what type of building this is, then progress (dependent on which quests are active and their order) to what Street Number and what Street is it’s address? Or is “building=yes” a complete statement?

I forget that changes don’t always update straight away and that when I add buildings, StreetComplete will not display them by default, but still downloads the vectors for when you are near them.

Yes.

One thing that’s a little bit confusing about SC is that it rather aggressively caches the underlying map tiles. So you might draw your building=yes, submit it, a few moments later refresh SC and get the new quests. But the “map” will not show that building unless you clear app cache and even then it sometimes doesn’t get updated.
