Trip to Jenolan caves

Posted by gnumen on 29 March 2016 in English. Lეკონიას გეახალჷ 6 August 2016-ის.

Even though being an indoor’ist, enjoyed the drive to Jenolan caves. The narrow roads on the way to Jenolan caves,NSW, AU was not expected. It reminded me of the roads in Malamukal,Trivandrum, Kerala, were roads twist and turn, the only act of letting others know that there is a vehicle coming in the blind hair pin bend is by honking, but here it wasn’t the case, the speed recommended was 40 or less but knowing about the oncoming vehicle wasn’t easy - could have installed those outdoor convex blind spot mirrors for assistance at various blind turns. The return journey was not fun as I was tired.

trace from Canberra to Midson

Posted by gnumen on 4 January 2016 in English.

Forgot to mention previously that it was with the help of google navigation that trip was made possible. While this trace is with the help of NeronGPS. On the way from Canberra to our place Midson, we visited National Library of Australia. Took Humes Motorway(M31) –> Westlink M7 (Toll Road) –> M4 Western Motorway –> Pendle Hill –> Abie’s –> Midson From Abie’s we got our dinner and Vijay and Family too got their dinner and we bid au revoir.

trace from Midson to Canberra

Posted by gnumen on 4 January 2016 in English.

Few days back got a place for GTA02 in our Vedu. The backup power bank (sony, 10,000mAh) provided the necessary juice for the device. Took a break at Caltex Glenfield (Campbeltown road). We then met Vijay and family at Goulburn where had a look inside big Merino(It was really hot outside). Stopped at - Weereewa lookout(Federal Highway) - Aspen Island - Old Parliament House - New Parliament House Then ultimately to our resting place - Clifton Suites Canberra.

With the drained out battery of GTA02 but a handy Sony CycleEnergy battery bank was able to trace from Midson to Marsden Rd. As usual the initial fix too bit of time(can’t blame, it was cloudy). Got a lift too in Ashram car. The trace was immediately transferred to my laptop.

There was bit of a mess created at the time of submitting the trace in google map. It introduced a new layer concept which I couldn’t understand and created a new layer which I found unusual and tried to delete the layer that I created which deleted the whole of the trace :( . There is no way to recover the trace.

The traces submitted here is going to help me to get the traces.

Trace from Florida Ave to Eastwood

Posted by gnumen on 30 June 2014 in English.

We walked all the way to Eastwood more than once but this time I took my GTA02 with me to trace the path - from Marsden Rd -> Lawson St -> Brush Rd -> Rutledge Rd -> Eastwood. The usual process of downloading/cache the maps using wifi which required SD card (http://gnumen.org/blog/foss/31/03/2011/gps-tracing-using-gta02-u-blox-atr0635-module) went without any glitch. The maps were downloaded using the wifi WPA2(AES). In order to overcome the MAC based pass thru for [captive portal of Pfsense] (http://ncsu.librelab.org/2014/06/improper-usage-of-wnce2001-netgear-pass.html) entered the MAC addr of netgear in the Pass thru MAC table( risk, I know). BUT when ever the gps is enabled, the GTA02 almost within seconds alarms about low battery which wasn’t the case previously but this time only difference that I found was that after every reboot I was not made to configure the SD card and the SD card retained the previous gps traces as well as the map cache(s).. Hmmmm should I call it usual or unusual. I took care of the low battery issue with the Sony cycleenergy Power bank. Don’t know why it’s behaving in such a manner. ##Some random observation(s)/steps taken - In the flight without the SIM card was able to trace without the battery outage alert for quiet sometime. - After reaching Florida ave the device was not able to retain the battery power even for a day. without GSM sim or any other services disabled. - Placed the sim and replaced the SD card once again.

We came back from Eastwood by Public transport system(BUS) - from Eastwood -> HillView Rd -> Terry Rd -> Marsden Rd

trace frm Librelab to zyxware

Posted by gnumen on 7 April 2012 in English.

As of now the Zyxware is at TKD road, Marappalam but it may shift in future, Zyxware was previously near M G college. Had to move around a bit to find it. Got outdoors(phew) to find it but after going to Marappalam dropped it because the openstreet map did not have the roads tagged unlike google map and so many of options(road) made it too hard to find the location(predefined condition is/was not to ask any humans for specifics i.e where the xyz location is but can ask for routes only :))

Librelab to Aruvikkara

Traversing from my place to aruvikkara will lead to a man-made structure to provide for the human beings. Its an awesome place but there had been very unfortunate incidents. A simple criteria could avoid everything regardless of age. If one knows how to survive/sustain(life of cource) in deep water go ahead if not keep away from deep water. Don't know why such sense don't prevail among the crowd. Some shots of the place(not very clear)

Not to mention that, outdoor activities are almost absent from the life style of the incumbent.

Divulging the info using maps

Posted by gnumen on 24 April 2011 in English.

It is often the technology which comes to my rescue but when it comes to real life scenario everything is misplaced and the information that is provided by the site is often outdated. How good it would be if those sites/places would be making use of traces to show their location- Fantabulous :)

Own a land which is not at all visible from the map available - reason, still no landmark is there to pin point it - It is in kulasekharam, Trivandrum. There is a near by river which makes the place a visual treat

GTA02 - u-blox ANTARIS 4 chip

Posted by gnumen on 30 March 2011 in English.

Just checking how the nerongps app of qtmoko is working with ublox ATR0635 as the gps module. The result is really good. Created the data partition in the SD card where the maps of openstreetmap is cached and the trace is also stored in the gpx format.
