Have you read the information there? The maps are already OSM maps

Yes, they have detailed instructions on how to export maps from osm for usage there. But they are still removing the LINKs to osm. I would like to have a link from shkoder to the wikiproject shkdoer.
thanks,
mike

Having read their community guidelines and project goals, I can see that they would not want a link to the OSM wiki (in the context of those guidelines it could smell distinctly spammy)! I think if it were me I would read the policies the other user has very politely pointed out. As with any community project, it is probably wise for a newbie not to knowingly trample on what looks like a strong community consensus until they have a good feel for the project. If after getting a good feel for the project, they still feel their idea will further the goals of the project, then it is probably worth entering into discussions with the community before acting. IMHO.

Well, from what I saw, it would be ok. OSM is not a travel site, it is a mapping site. the license is compatible. etc. My feeling was that the link was removed because it was a link, not looking into if OSM fits the policy. my reading of the policy would allow links to osm. Of course I can be wrong.

They have a special exception for wikipedia, but not for OSM. I would like to undestand why.

Project pages in the OSM wiki aren’t really comparable to articles in Wikipedia. Do they have links to pages in the Wikipedia: namespace?

Comment from h4ck3rm1k3 on 20 April 2010 at 20:57

Yes, they have a special way to link wikipedia.
I give, up, really I dont care about wikitravel. if they dont want links, they dont get them. meh

They are just following their policy. On their external links guidelines, they said not to link to map services (or even supporting pages such as the OSM wiki). It doesn't matter that OSM is CC-BY-SA and linking to a wikiproject page on OSM from a travel guide doesn't help their readers.
