Trains are great. Model trains are a great hobby.

I used to have a model train set from my Dad.
In fact, my uncle has a huge train set in Kansas.

OSM can be considered to be a big online model train set-

Maybe if we put some train simulations on there, people would use it more

like train time tables with different locomotives, that would be very popular.

People could add in all the train time tables,
and see where the train is at any given time
even mark them as being late.

On that note, what about playing http://lincity-ng.berlios.de/ with osm data?

But nevertheless a global public transport timetable would be great for routing ("take bus line 5 till XYZ street and go to your train in 20min").

There is already something like that for switzerland as a Google Maps Mashup. But maybe its interesting to look at and what could be possible with that data:
