It would be really cool if one could edit the coordinates of POIs directly. This would make it very easy to enter new hotels, etc.
Is this possible? Would be very cool.

If you have a dataset and the (explicit) permission to import it to OSM, there are ways to automate this. Ask on some mailing list then.
In JOSM you can add nodes by their location (Shift-D) and I am pretty sure you can edit nodes' locations too.
