How to map buildings within a building?

Hi all,

Hoping for some guidance.

Here’s the area I’m looking at.

It’s a hospital in my city. It’s a series of buildings which are connected together. What is the best way to label the individual buildings? Previously a mapper had put individual buildings on top of the underlying buildings but that doesn’t seem great.

Many thanks

Hi, in most cases you don’t know where one building ends and the other begins. So you can better map the outline of the building and put a single node inside the area with the information. This could be a address or the name of that part of this building. Nominatim or other navi-software will take the node to route you there. I would not recommend building within buildings.

Thanks! What I’ve done currently is add buildings as points with their names, but it doesn’t seem to display in the default view on osm.org….

At https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/wiN building:part tags has been used to map and name parts of buildings. Here the names also doesn’t render on the default view though.

@Hjart This is a great way to map such parts. Always nice to learn something new! ;-)
