Correct surface for roads with chipseal?

Käyttäjä howdystranger kirjotti tämän 19. Octobera 2023 kielellä English

Hi all

Keen for advice on the correct tagging for roads in Wellington, NZ which have chipseal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipseal

I was applying Tag:surface=fine_gravel but now looking at the Wiki I think that might be incorrect. Perhaps asphalt is the best tag even though it’s not smooth?

Many thanks

How to map buildings within a building?

Käyttäjä howdystranger kirjotti tämän 19. Februarya 2018 kielellä English

Hi all,

Hoping for some guidance.

Here’s the area I’m looking at.

It’s a hospital in my city. It’s a series of buildings which are connected together. What is the best way to label the individual buildings? Previously a mapper had put individual buildings on top of the underlying buildings but that doesn’t seem great.

Many thanks

Moovit attribution for OSM data

Käyttäjä howdystranger kirjotti tämän 29. Maya 2014 kielellä English

I sent an email to Moovit complaining about their rather lacklustre attribution for OSM:

Hi, It’s great that you’re using open street map but I notice that the attribution is hidden away in an obscure menu rather than being prominently placed on the actual map itself. Best practice (and not that much to ask) is to put “(c) openstreetmap contributors” in the bottom right of the map with a link to information about OSM. I’m sure the community would appreciate if you took attribution more seriously :-) Cheers, Harry

They replied saying they would pass on my comment to their development team, but I’m not really hopeful anything will come of this haha.

foot paths

Käyttäjä howdystranger kirjotti tämän 16. Januarya 2014 kielellä English

I’m wondering whether it’s worth adding foot paths (ie pavements) to the sides of roads - is it useful to people generally (e.g. visually-impaired people)? I’ve made a start in Wellington (New Zealand), but looking around big cities it doesn’t seem like it’s done very commonly
