144421257 | 7 months ago | Hello, I've learned in the year since this changeset to just use access=no for slip lane closures, since that looks to be the norm of other mappers. |
159681312 | 8 months ago | There are concrete barriers separating the cycletrack from the automobile lanes. However, in various spots on Van Buren, there are medians being installed separating each direction of automobile traffic too. |
159681312 | 8 months ago | While I think this is a good idea, I have one concern with the suggestion. Concrete medians have been slowly added to Van Buren Street over the past few months, and I assume more will be added once construction continues in the spring. This may result in Van Buren getting redrawn as two one-way highways, like how Walnut Street or Kilbourn Avenue are. Would your suggestion be compatible with this possible change? |
159681312 | 9 months ago | For any future editors: I had spoken with a city engineer about this during one of the pre-construction public meetings about the project. He told me the redundant southbound bike lane is intended for cyclists immediately going from Holton to Water (no need to get to the other side of the road just to cross back), and is to compensate for there not being a stoplight at Reservoir/Glover. If you can't safely get on the cycletrack before the bridge, there is a stoplight at Brady where the redundant painted lane ends, and there is a painted area showing you where to wait during the two-part turn onto the cycletrack itself. |
158476679 | 9 months ago | Yep, that one! (and associated other ways that make up the path) bicycle=designated is now re-added here: osm.org/changeset/159392398 (Unrelated: I wonder if the city or the Couture developer missed an opportunity to put a small bike path on the west side of the one block of Lincoln Memorial between Michigan and Clybourn. This would fully connect the path under 794 with the Oak Leaf Trail. Though, last I checked in-person, the area is still under construction, so maybe it'll happen!) |
158476679 | 9 months ago | For the path on the west side of Lincoln Memorial Drive that goes underneath 794: There is a Bike Path sign at the northern end, a Bike Route sign partway down the path, and bicycle symbols painted on the path near its southern end (where cyclists must switch to the painted bike lanes). Do you have any concerns if I restore bicycle=designated for this path? |
156626045 | 9 months ago | Hey BPTT, I have now moved these cycleways on-street in these two changesets:
I kept the "bulge" on the landuse since that matches the expanded footprint of the block post-construction. Please let me know if any of my other changes need attention to better improve the cycling experience. |

156626045 | 9 months ago | Thanks for reaching out. I'm good with getting rid of the separate cycleways and tagging directly on the road in future edits. |
156662804 | 11 months ago | (This isn't to say your other edits aren't appreciated, by the way! I see you in the edit history around here very often; thank you for all you do for the map ^^) |
156662804 | 11 months ago | Your GTFS tagging work is really appreciated. What tools (if any) do you use to make life easier for this type of edit? |
145129675 | over 1 year ago | Oh wait never mind, you said north of Canal (not south). Please disregard my previous comment |
145129675 | over 1 year ago | Last time I took the trail a few days ago, there was a sign near the intersection of 6th and Canal that said something like "Hank Aaron State Trail --> Please Use Sidewalk". I had marked the sidewalk as designated due to that sign. Is the removal of designated due to it being a sidewalk to emphasize that pedestrians have right-of-way? |
