149237441 | 11 months ago | I can't speak for other universities, it could be that they are mapped wrong. I usually only pay attention to edits in my area. If you want to indicate that an off-campus office is run by SJSU, it's best to use the "operator" tag on that office. The "amenity=university" tag is only to indicate the area where classes are. osm.wiki/Tag:amenity%3Duniversity OSM has a rule that one feature should only be represented by one OSM object, so the campus should be a single "amenity=university" way covering the area where classes take place. osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element The land that SJSU owns is also not of interest to OSM: osm.wiki/Parcel The way I see it, if someone were to ask me where SJSU is, I'd point to the block between San Fernando, 10th, San Salvador, and 4th. A search engine therefore should be able to find a single object with that name and that area. |

155767264 | 11 months ago | Where did you move the address and unit numbers? |
154833175 | 12 months ago | I've undone this change. The "name" key should only be the object's actual name, not a description, and these objects being inner members of the San José boundary is already enough to say that they're unincorporated. osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions |
154616934 | about 1 year ago | Thanks for contributing to OSM! Please do not reference Google Street View or Google Maps when editing OSM. It's illegal/against copyright, and violates Google's terms of use. |
153983465 | about 1 year ago | Yes, if you can get a photo of the building with the "90" address visible, then it would be fine to change. I'm not sure what the postal city would be in that case, though—I guess San Jose since the nearby Cupertino addresses are all in the 100xx range. And yes, a separate point for the other address would be good too. |
153983465 | about 1 year ago | It's far more likely that the 7-11 website is wrong than the USPS website. I tried all combinations of 90 and 10058 in the street address, and Cupertino and San Jose as the city, in their address lookup tool ( https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress ), and 10058 + Cupertino was the only one of the four that returned any result. |
153983465 | about 1 year ago | addr:city is for postal city, not physical city. Indeed, this location is physically within San Jose, as can be seen by the borders, but according to USPS, letters delivered here should have "Cupertino" in the city line, likely since it's served by a Cupertino post office. |
153953770 | about 1 year ago | Welcome to OSM and thanks for contributing! Names in OSM should always have their abbreviations expanded—see osm.wiki/Abbreviations . I've gone ahead and replace "N" with "North" and "S" with "South." |
153039411 | about 1 year ago | It can also be helpful for searching and editors working with old data to keep the old business information under a "disused" prefix: osm.wiki/Lifecycle_prefix |
153039411 | about 1 year ago | Welcome to OSM, and thanks for your contribution! Unfortunately I'm going to revert the deletions in this changeset. Even if a business is closed (which you should verify first), the address still exists, and shouldn't be deleted. |
152227924 | about 1 year ago | That is a better question for "SIM" or its users, since OSM should not be the only way to re-create a course. There is JOSM for offline OSM editing, and QGIS for general map making, but I'm sure there's better suited solutions. |
152227924 | about 1 year ago | I repeat, do not add features that do not exist, and do use more descriptive changeset messages. Failure to ignore these messages may result in a ban. |
152140710 | about 1 year ago | Hi. Please use the changeset description field to describe what you changed and why; "updated" is not sufficient. Read more here: osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments OpenStreetMap is a map for everyone, and has a policy against mapping nonexistent features. Please do not map historical features. See: osm.wiki/Good_practice#Don't_map_historic_events_and_historic_features If you know the dates that something existed, you can instead add it to OpenHistoricalMap: https://www.openhistoricalmap.org/ |
151387204 | about 1 year ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap, and thanks for contributing! The "name" field on a building should only be used if the building itself has a formal name that people know it as. Houses don't need them. Also, you can change the attributes of a feature by clicking on it—you don't need to add a duplicate feature on top. |
151171315 | about 1 year ago | USPS says the zip code was correct already (and they're the authority): https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress |
150730104 | over 1 year ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap, and thanks for contributing! The extra information is appreciated. My only bit of feedback would actually be the change message—this field is your chance to summarize to other mappers what you changed and why. Something like, "Added address and payment methods to an ice cream shop from local knowledge." |
150736558 | over 1 year ago | Why did you undo this one? natural=sand makes more sense than landuse=sand |
149764215 | over 1 year ago | Please be more specific about what you changed in each changeset. Read this page osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments if you have any questions. |
149550104 | over 1 year ago | Thanks for contributing to OSM! It would be helpful if your changeset description were more specific about what you changed and why. For example, "Added an apartment office, referencing the property management website." See more info here: osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments |
