Greetings,
I often generate static maps (.png) for offline use, but I also need the coordinates of the bounding box for it to be useful.
Any thoughts on this issue: https://trac.openstreetmap.org/ticket/4939
Some possible ways forward for this:
-
These coordinates could just to be displayed in the web page for the generated image, so that someone generating an image will know what they are.
-
Or if the server side code and configuration still supports it, a link to the old web page could provide this desired capability with minimal fuss. Is it still available and I have missed it?
-
Or embed the coordinates in the metadata for the image file. For .png, it could be added into the Comment field. http://www.w3.org/TR/PNG/#11textinfo
While on the topic, the openstreemap.org copyright should probably be included in generated images…

I absolutely agree that they should be brought back. I was just looking for them feeling really dumb.
This is the mapper/developer oriented frontend to the OSM data. It makes no sense to remove features like this.
