Great idea. But what purpose of this application should be? Map viewer with navigation? Map editor?

All of these functions you mentioned are necessary.

But this is a lot work. OSM fundation has no budget to pays developers. But many 3rd party apps using OSM data exists: Locus, OsmAnd, Maps.Me, Windy.com…

Some of them are able to do basic POI editing. For rest, there is a Vespuci. But I personally prefer big screen and mouse for editing.

BTW, OSM website and iD editor are HTML+JS, so already works on all platforms ;-)

OpenStreetMap is about the data to create maps, not about applications. I firmly believe we should focus on data (and perhaps tools to map and to verify the data), but should stay away from apps for end users. There are so many applications of maps, and as Mariàn wrote, there are already plenty of apps out there using OSM data.

There is no reason to compete with those app developers.

Jason. Which “official applications” do you refer to?

Comentariu de Warin61 el 31 de December de 2017 a les 02:16

I suggest that Jason should introduce applications on all platforms.

I sent the message because at first I tried many apps on my phone to edit the map but they could not perfectly satisfy me. Last night I tried using a computer to edit online and I was satisfied. Thus I no longer think that apps for all platforms is necessary as there is always the official website where the map can be edited.
