trip from 57/10

Ipinaskil ni jerjozwik noong 24 Agosto 2009 na nasa English

on my way back from orange county, i left the freeway at a random off-ramp and proceed to track the surface streets. from covina hills on through to san gabriel. took about 2 hours and 400kb but i think it was worth it. working on fixing / naming / cleaning all roads that i managed to stick myself onto. openmoko app omgps was my navigator, pre cached files were my stomping grounds. on wards and westwards was my motto!

anyhow, lots of work ahead. adios

gps accuracy dropping from here on out?

GPS Accuracy Could Start Dropping in 2010.

We've all become accustomed to using the Global Positioning System, or GPS, whether via our iPhones, car navigation devices, handheld GPS units, or even watch-based devices like the Garmin Forerunner series. The GPS system went into full operation in December of 1993, was declared a dual-use (military and civilian) system by President Bill Clinton in 1996, and in 2000 had "Selective Availability" removed to increase accuracy for civilian uses. It relies on a constellation of between 24 and 32 medium Earth orbit satellites, some of which have been operating for nearly 19 years. Unlike other national satellite navigation systems, GPS serves the entire world and is maintained by the United States Air Force 50th Space Wing.

Socal cleanup

Ipinaskil ni jerjozwik noong 5 Hunyo 2008 na nasa English

Ive been spending my last few days cleaning up the TIGER data in my home city of san gabriel. and adding in map features like schools and what not. after that cleanup i found myself editing and cleaning up the 10 freeway, east to el monte west to downtown.

today i continued my anal retentiveness by editing, cleaning, separating the 4 level interchange between the 101 and 110 freeways. im rather surprised how messy most of the ways in so-cal are. not sure if its bad gps/Tiger data, or just lazy map makers.

so onward i go, in my quest to make maps pritty.

[after i get sick of editing the LA area, ill head back over to east java for some indonesian map making fun!
