ok... the problem with the Thames at Thamesmead is actually my fault, while trying to get the thames to render at all. I believe I've fixed it now.

AFAIK the problem with the thames not rendering was a problem with Mapnik, not with the data... or are you talking about a Mapnik fix?

Yes I've got the thames to mapnik render all the way from slough to the estuary by adding the natural=water tag in addition to the waterway=riverbank tags on the pieces of river. However, I've been having problems with Potlatch and the map loading times which caused spurious ways to be added to the map. This has caused all of the Belvedere area to appear to be covered with water. I've now corrected this problem with JOSM, but unfortunately for this week, the mapnik map is stuck with this ugly mistake - I just wish there was a way of forcing that mapnik tile to be updated.

Joe,
You have my "vote" for anything like that. A kind of Information Freeway/Tiles@Home but for the Mapnik render. That would be great.
Is there a technical reason not to do this?

It isn't done due to lack of resources. It is also the fact that the tools are only now starting to be in a state to be able to do very recent updates.
