Hmm.. Just a quick update on a quirk in mapedit.

English телендә jozz13 August 2011 баҫылып сыҡты.

I am probably doing something wrong but if I save a edit in Mapedit and then change something else and save again it automatically overwrites the old save.

This happen when I updated new added POI's and saved. Then saw that a newly burned down building (that has been converted to tarmac) was still there in maps I removed it (I hope) and pressed Save again.

I didn't get a chance to update the change-log. It just added the removed building to the change-set. So now the change-log is wrong (see #9005130).

So if anyone is wondering why there is a, hopefully, removed building in the change-set but it is not mentioned in the change-log I truly apologize. I just started with OSM and can only you read this before chastising me. :)

Assuming you are referring to Potlatch (what you get when you click on "Edit"), I don't think saving again will overwrite previous saved changes. Your previous edits should still be there.

Note that the main map (what you get when you click on "View") can take a while to update. Usually it updates within a few minutes or hours, but sometimes longer. So your edits may not show up on the map straight away. Its also possible you are looking at a cached copy of the map, you can try a Shift+Refresh in your browser.

Thanks, I'm quite new at this. :-D

The problem was that I was unable to add change-log of what I did (second time)... But I will be more careful in the future.

The change log is not so important, there are even a lot of users that don't use it. If you use the merkaartor editor, then it automatically puts the bounding box as changelog, that is quite useless because it can also be seen from the edits itself.

So don't care about the changelog, just use it if you need it, or to explain to other users what you did.

If you want to close a changeset then press "C" and the next time you save it will open a new changeset and ask you for a description again.

The first time you click save, it will of course let you type in a description of what changes you're making and it creates a changeset (aka change-log). But when you save again, it saves your changes to the same changeset, unless you press the "c" key to close the changeset, as TomH mentioned.

Btw you don't have to describe what you edited, but it's a good idea as it gives others a general idea of what changes you made.
