I have been working with baseball fields in OSM for my deep learning/OSM project (https://github.com/jremillard/images-to-osm). My partial OSM dataset has around 13,000 baseball fields. I have discovered that around 7% of them are traced just around the infield!
If you map baseball fields, please map the entire field not just the infield.
All of OSM has over 100,000 baseball fields mapped, thats around 7,000 fields are too small. I updated the wiki for sport=baseball to recommend that the entire field be mapped rather than just the infield. In the future, I might make a MapRoulette for this. All of the baseball fields that have an area less than 100x100 ^feet are suspect.

Ok… devils advocate hat on here …
a) What is the ‘entire field’?
b) OSM maps ‘what is on the ground’. So is the ‘pitch’ (“whole area of play”) the on the ground area where the ball is ‘in play’?
The message is .. you know what you mean, but I don’t. You’ll need to really describe what you mean so I and others don’t misinterpret it. And the description should be easy to translate into other languages.

There are many places where there are fields if different sizes: the smaller ones presumably for small children. This is also true for soccer pitches: facilities in primary schools are often much smaller than standard pitches ( and I presume smaller than the minimum regulation size, which used to be 100 by 50 yards).

Thanks for providing a link to your project at github. It was a very interesting read.

One example of a cluster of fields of different sizes:

I realized after reading your comment (changeset=50535922 way=509977764) that I may have committed this crime many more times in NYC/LI/PuertoRico. Sorry about that. My understanding was that the area where you would normally play would be the only area a baseball player would be interested in. I also can easily identify a baseball diamond if I see the fan shape on my OSMand app.

@daniel_solow, no worries. I did it myself a couple of times.
