138711372 | about 2 years ago | What would be an acceptable name that OSM could help to establish?
|
138711372 | about 2 years ago | For what its worth: I've added this photo of this trail - https://www.trailforks.com/photo/25186829/ ... where you can clearly see that this is now a trail, but used to be a well established service double-track, during the past history when Collserola had more agriculture. |
138711372 | about 2 years ago | (both English and Spanish are foreign languages for me ... please forgive any errors) |
138711372 | about 2 years ago | Hey aTarom, are you familiar with this area? Let me know if you want to come to a site visit together. |
138711372 | about 2 years ago | No, es tambien para senderistas. Creo que no tiene nada de sentido de tener nombres diferentes para el mismo camino. |

114596714 | over 3 years ago | Thank you so much ... I'll use that. I only got notification about this comment 2 days ago, here I see it as 2 months ago - that's weird, huh? |
114269165 | over 3 years ago | yep, I get it now. Thanks. |
114269165 | over 3 years ago | many trails and "pistas" do not appear to have any name at all, other than the reference like A11. All signposts use these references. That's why the map should show them. But if the reference appears in the map, if the name is empty, then I think it's good to move it there. Does it? |
71327740 | about 6 years ago | Hello Jose, thank you. It's very kind of you to share those tips. The relation seems like a good way to chain segments together - I'll start using that. I understand the ref tag could be used when a path has a different name, and that name is *established* and also used in signposts, like street signs.
Here is an example of a signpost:
The 3-character references are red signs, and easy to read. Here is an example that has multiple references, but many are too tiny and too difficult to read:
For navigation with any map-system that is based on OSM source data (like for example all Garmin systems), it is extremely useful being told which exact path to go ... and that should be the reference, or at least prefixed with that reference. Currently most system just show these paths as "unnamed road" or "unpaved road". I trust that my edits of names will eventually tickle down into systems where they will extremely useful for navigation for people who hike or who go with mountain bikes. best regards, Kai |
