92830421 | almost 5 years ago | If you remove the building=* tag, then the hotel will not render as a building on the map. All of the other tags are correct, but in addition, it needs the tag, building=hotel.

92663187 | almost 5 years ago | I wouldn't recommend using Bing Imagery. Everything in Iowa City has been aligned to Mapbox Satellite, whereas Bing Imagery is offset and of lower quality. You can switch which background imagery you are using in iD by pressing the "B" on your keyboard. This should bring up a list of imagery to use, select Mapbox for the highest resolution. National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) is the most up to date if you are trying to add recent construction. |
92526078 | almost 5 years ago | I see via the Wikipedia page that some parts of Highway 6 in the US are referred to as Grand Army of the Republic Highway. I drive on this stretch of highway weekly and have never noticed signage calling it that. All of the road signs I've seen call it some variation of Highway 6, US Highway 6, Highway 6 West, Highway 6 East... As the name=* tag is supposed to refer to the on-the-ground common usage name, I don't think it is appropriate to change it here. Wouldn't it make more sense just to tack alt_name="Grand Army of the Republic Highway" onto the entire US 6 relation? |
92138958 | almost 5 years ago | You changed the name of US 69 / IA 2 to the name of your business. I went ahead and reverted your changes. If you want an easy way to add your business, please add a node located on top of your business and add the appropriate tags to it. |
92126812 | almost 5 years ago | Please don't abbreviate road suffixes. For instance, Opal Ln should be written as Opal Lane. This allows 3rd party software the ability to decide whether or not to abbreviate the name. Without the full name, they would have to guess what the abbreviation stands for. Also, in the editor, try switching the background imagery using the button with 3 stacked squares. The National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) is recent enough that you can actually see the roads you added. |
91660142 | almost 5 years ago | Road names shouldn't be abbreviated, they should be written as full names. For instance, Prairie Hill Ct should be written Prairie Hill Court. The renderer can make the decision whether or not to abbreviate. |
91233993 | almost 5 years ago | All of your edits in Donnellson have errors. You are creating lines but not adding tags. They should be area=yes, building=yes, and building=house in this case. Bing Imagery is not the highest quality in this area, you should be using Mapbox instead. Also make sure to execute the square command on the shapes, you can press Q on the iD editor to square a closed way. |
91067318 | almost 5 years ago | Fair enough. Seems like a confusing little area for the mailman. |
91067318 | almost 5 years ago | What was the point of removing the roundabout here, it was already mapped correctly (other than it shouldn't be named). Certainly, the junction is not a mini-roundabout since it has an electric pole in the center, meaning it would be impossible to drive a vehicle straight across. Per the OSM definition of mini-roundabout, "A mini-roundabout is a special type of roundabout in which the middle can be traversed by vehicles". |
91063354 | almost 5 years ago | It looks like you know about the 'square' command. There is also a 'circularize' command which takes a closed way and makes it circular. The aboveground pools you added would be a perfect application of the 'circularize' feature. |
90640599 | almost 5 years ago | This is wrong. You incorrectly changed the landuse and in addition removed the valid Wikidata and Wikipedia tags. This has happened multiple times between you and edgar77rangel. Please explain yourself. |
90609786 | almost 5 years ago | I guess the planning agency has just ignored requests for fast, soft surface running trails... http://www.bettendorf.com/sites/default/files/latest_greatlawn.pdf |
90608397 | almost 5 years ago | I've noticed all your edits are very high quality. Des Moines looks great! OSMCha flags a lot of your edits as "possible imports". I'm just curious whether you trace everything nicely by hand or import? |
90036950 | almost 5 years ago | That's a bit of an odd setup. I'm curious whether the city built the pool before the schools, or the school district built the schools around the pool? |
89936438 | almost 5 years ago | Please stop adding features that do not exist. The map is used by other people and anything you add will be displayed to everyone |
89821648 | almost 5 years ago | Council Bluff doesn't list it on their parks&rec website. https://www.councilbluffs-ia.gov/2211/Our-Parks. It looks like it might have gotten renamed or absorbed into one of the two adjacent parks. Looking around the area, it also seems that both Big Lake Park and Lewis and Clark Monument Park have somewhat incorrect boundaries. The parks website shows screenshots of the primary contributing parcel. https://gis.pottcounty-ia.gov/Html5Viewer_4_13_3/Index.html?viewer=Public shows the parcel directly south of Lewis and Clark Park and the parcel north of Big Lake Park also belong to the city. This seems to be your turf, so I'll leave the figuring up to you. |
89109972 | about 5 years ago | It seems the user really wants to contribute in the area. I saw they were busy in the middle of the night adding and changing things. I also noticed you flagged a lot of their edits on osmcha. I made another comment on osm.org/changeset/89106469 which they will hopefully read. I'm not going to repair things since I suspect they will make more edits today. Maybe once they cool down I'll try to swing by and fix the area up. |
89106469 | about 5 years ago | Paging edgar77rangel... I would appreciate a response here. What are your intentions with the map? It seems you are making honest effort edits to improve West Liberty? Some faults I have found with your changes include:
I have included the links to 2 guides. I hope you take the time to thoroughly read these guides and browse some of the documentation on the OSM Wiki before contributing further. https://learnosm.org/en/beginner/id-editor/

88361246 | about 5 years ago | I checked with the city website, and those areas are very well defined. Since you seem to be more familiar with Cedar Rapids than me, if you want to rename the areas, you have the go ahead from me. Definitely add in the Taylor and Northwest Neighborhood regions, since they have no labels right now. |
88361246 | about 5 years ago | I see where you are coming from and understand that OSM is supposed to represent what is on the ground. Mapping something as an area means that it has well defined edges. This technique works well for administrative districts like counties, city boundaries, or even subdivision boundaries. If an area is residential, then it makes sense to try and split it up by subdivision. The areas may as well have names since someone may refer to them. If you look at it from the perspective of the rendered map, a very small subdivision will only show up at zoom level 100m or 300m, so most users won't even notice. If a subdivision doesn't have a well defined name, like "palanp's subdivision", then I typically add the tag noname=yes onto the area since no one would refer to it by that name. To address your concern, if this whole region of Cedar Rapids is referred to by people as Wellington Heights, then that should take precedence over the mapped subdivisions. I assume Wellington heights as the region isn't well defined, so using a node might be the best approach. Tagged with place=suburb or place=quarter, this node would take precedence over the mapped regions. On the map, it would render Wellington Heights instead of the area names. I hope my suggestion is acceptable to you. At least take it under advisement before axing the areas. |
