First mapping

Posted by kenny_lex on 25 December 2008 in English.

Yesterday did I edit some maps for the first time, but I yet not know if i did it right, for I can not see the changes on OpenStreetmap. I must learn more before i go on, I uses JOSM under Ubuntu to make my map changes.

Welcome to the project.

The main map is updated once a week, I believe on Tuesday night/Wednesday, so you are not going to see it there until then. If you look at the same area using the Potlatch editor then you should see the changes.

Have Fun.

Welcome - I hope you enjoy mapping as much as I do.

There is a second layer that gets rendered much more often called Osmarender. You can change to that layer using the blue and white + sign at the top right. The Wiki gives more information.

Hi, merry christmas and welcome to openstreetmap.

Let me add another way to have a look on your changes, before they will get rendered in mapnik, the main map layer: click on that + symbol in the upper right and click on data. That will show you a data overlay that is live generated from the database, but only in very high zoom levels, as that data request is a bit complex.

Also, if you'd like to get some comments about what you mapped and maybe get some tips from other mappers, you could post some coordinates of your changes. There is a whole lot of friendly and helpful people who always enjoy helping new users.

Happy mapping!

Patrick
