I suppose it'd be nice if the error showed up in the Coastline Checker, but when I tried it last, no such luck. I suppose the Checker works for many other cases though.

Loaded up Cayman Island in JOSM, but the Way seems properly counter-clock. It might just be a rendering issue? Osmarender doesn't get the land/water division right in some cases.

Thanks -- I've heard of osm2pgsql but it doesn't seem designed for the kind of rapid prototyping I'm going for now. It seems that Osmosis supports reading in bzipped OSM files and exporting a subset of nodes, so I'll give that a try for now.

Do you know why the larger Cayman Islands don't appear? Mapnik fails to render the coastlines: osm.org/?lat=19.3537&lon=-81.268&zoom=12&layers=B00FTF
even though I can see them imported through PGS and tagged as natural=coastline with the appropriate directions in Potlatch.

The (Georgetown) Cayman Islands coastlines don't seem appear in the Coastline viewer, but do show in the osmarender:
