How to?

Looking at three different user accounts created within 30 minutes, all with a link to the same commercial website on the user page and all posting questions in blog articles with no apparent reaction to helpful comments, I guess we have another case of home-made "Search Engine Optimization" (vulgo "Spam").

More neighborhood building 'texture'

Instead of removing the entrance nodes, you might tag them building=entrance (at least as long as we are talking about buildings). The information about the exact location of doors is helpful for blind map users. For more information, check osm.wiki/Tag:building%3Dentrance for the entrance tag and osm.wiki/OSM_for_the_blind for OSM maps for blind users.

Getting Started

Hi, welcome to the crowd! One thing that might take a bit of getting used to: The collection of data and the map rendering are pretty independent things here, so not everything that is in the map data is shown on every version of the map. The good thing about this is that there are tools to create all kinds of renderings out of the map data as well as quite different stuff like traffic routing, load simulation on the power network (I made that one up, AFAIK no-one built this yet, but it would be possible IMHO), finding the next vietnamese restaurant and many more.

Problem with Yahoo WMS plugin in JOSM

the WMS layer in JOSM does not change resolution once you opened it. So, first zoom in to the resolution you want and then open a WMS layer. You can also have several Yahoo layers open at once, just stack them in the right order (that's what the arrows for sorting layers are for).

KeepRight

Your guess is correct: we are supposed to put a bridge on the map where a bridge exists in reality (usually with layer=1) or, when the waterway crosses under the highway in a tunnel or culvert, tag the crossing section of the waterway as culvert=yes or tunnel=yes, usually combined with layer=-1).

OSM in Doha

Regarding documentation, there is a lot that could be done. A good starting point would be osm.wiki/Ar:Map_Features
My knowledge of Arabic is not good enough to work on the introductory text on the start of that page, so if you have time to spare, please help. And if you have only a little time, the rest of the map features can be translated in tiny bits at a time (and only a few of them have been done already). If you need help on the technical aspects of the wiki templates and translation mechanisms, please ask.

Kharkiv now has proper street names

There is a discussion at http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2010-October/005171.html currently on rendering names on maps. I still suggest to add name:uk because that way renderers can selectively pick the Ukrainian name without needing to know what the local language is.

Kharkiv now has proper street names

Looks good in the data. You might consider to add the Ukrainian name in name:uk in addition to the name tag, so renderers for multilingual maps can select the name in Ukrainian without having to check if the specific location is inside Ukraine.

Revised www.openstreetmap.la

Hi,

thanks for the good work! You might like to add your page to the wiki list of OSM country domains at osm.wiki/Domain_names
