An overview of reviews made with MapComplete | mangrove.reviews being the most used client might in part be due to applications that don’t implement the API but link to mangrove.reviews for creating a new review; one such application from the OSM universe would be https://opencampingmap.org/ |

More archaeological discoveries | I like the video and what you are doing here. One note regarding tag standardisation: Most useful tags are created by mappers that actually use them, so best team up with other mappers of historic and archaeological sites and compare notes what kinds of tags are useful in actual mapping. The discussion on the wiki is mostly helpful to find out if your planned tagging clashes with established tagging for other subjects and talk about general tagging “rules” that make the tagging fit in with established tags. Keep in mind that most mappers are not experts in the field of archaeology, so the tagging should be designed in a way that everyone can provide the most basic information, and still allow experts to refine that information by adding optional tags. Finally, don’t let yourself be distracted or discouraged by people that claim there is only “the one true way” of tagging, because there isn’t. Wolfgang (lyx@osm) |

Bridge Tagging Enhancements | @historic_bruno On https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/national-bridge-inventory-national-geospatial-data-asset-ngda-bridges they say that they got no license information from their source, but IF this data was prepared by government employees in the course of their work it would be considered an US Government work. The problem here seems to be that they don’t know if this was the case. |
|
Bridge Tagging Enhancements | I like it. The one thing I think you should change is the ref. Assuming NBI stands for “National Bridge Inventory” I guess more countries in the English speaking world would come up with just the same name, so it might be better to use ref:us:nbi. It would make the task easier for map makers that want to show the link. Otherwise they would have to find out the country first, which is possible of course but might require more computational effort. After looking at the nbi website, the license information for this data appears to be not entirely clear. Maybe it would be better to just add the ref, but not copy the structure and start_date data, just to be safe. Greetings, Wolfgang (lyx@osm) |

City of Edmonton Open data primer | Great that Edmonton makes those datasets available. However, if you use that data to add information to OSM, please make sure that the required attribution is added to osm.wiki/Contributors It looks like the City of Edmonton is not yet mentioned there. |

Added a review portal link to https://opencampingmap.org/ | This seems to have problems: The latest review on the mangroove site at the moment is for the campground “Jugendzeltplatz Nr. 7” in Sigmaringen. However, the button from OpenCampingMap returns a “No results found.” This might however be a problem at mangroove; the link from the mangroove start page finds the site with one review, reloading the page then still finds the site but with zero reviews. |

Welcome to the collective, KLL! | Glad we could clear that up. Sending friendly greetings to KLL, who have been quite active in the OSM world for almost a decade now and still going strong. |

Welcome to the collective, KLL! | Dear bo_hot, it is hard to convey “tone” in written comments, but I get the impression that you interpret the comments from Andy as some form of attack (which I don’t think they are, but I could be wrong of course). I assure you that this my message is not intended as an attack but as (hopefully helpful) comment. Words like “product owner” (a specific role in an “agile project management process”) will be meaningless to people that have never worked with these project management methods. Also many people will know “triage” only in the context of medical treatment in a battlefield or pandemic situation, if at all. So please don’t feel attacked but consider that your message might be understood better if you avoid phrases that are not commonly used or are used differently outside the specific context of your message, or if you use them add an explanation. Greetings from Germany, Wolfgang |

Evaluating school classification tagging schemes for the United States | I don’t think that the levels 0 through 3 are all that unclear; the border between the levels is just not conveniently located at the same spot where students commonly change schools in the US. In theory it would be possible to tag the three digit P code for every grade, but that would be a LOT of effort. |

Evaluating school classification tagging schemes for the United States | To handle changing standards, it might be helpful to indicate the version of ISCED that has been used when tagging an educational institution. There have been proposals to encode the version in the name of the key (e.g. isced:1997:level or isced:level:2011) but those have not found a lot of support. Maybe adding an additional tag specifying the version like e.g. isced:version=2011 might work. In the absence of that information we could check if there are levels that only exist in one version of the standard (01, 02, 7 and 8 in 2011, 0 in 1997) what version had been used. Only institutions that use level 5 and 6 and none of 7 and 8 would have to be checked manually). To create a table mapping national education system levels to ISCED levels the documents at http://uis.unesco.org/en/topic/international-standard-classification-education-isced give a lot of information; most helpful is probably the “ISCED 2011 Operational Manual: Guidelines for Classifying National Education Programmes and Related Qualifications”. |

Let's map some road names in Klang Valley, Malaysia! | @mmd: I did actually look at the maproulette instructions before posting. Unfortunately I was not aware that KartaView is a rename of the former OpenStreetCam, I wrongly assumed it was a commercial map viewing service. @jinalfoflia: sorry for my mistake, I apologize for making a misleading comment. |

Let's map some road names in Klang Valley, Malaysia! | I don’t see any sources mentioned in this challenge where participants could find the street names to add. So I’m afraid it looks like a call to copy names of other maps, which would be against the law AND against the rules of OpenStreetMap. Any data created this way would have to be erased from the OSM database, creating extra workload for the volunteers of the DWG. So PLEASE clarify where participants can find the names that they are supposed to add, or withdraw the challenge. |

Why OpenStreetMap is not popular? | Hi, even the best possible client can not find data that is not available. To make searching for addresses functional there is no other way than to acquire these addresses. If the government does not want to make their address databases available, you could try other sources. Home owner associations, chambers of commerce and the like probably are interested that customers find their member businesses or delivery drivers there houses. If road geometries and building outlines are already mapped, they could just place notes on buildings and leave the information for mappers to add. If road geometries are missing, how about asking the people driving garbage collection trucks to take a gps logger along on their tour for a few days. I’m sure you can think of other ways to get information from people who have some and might have an interest in finding it on the map. |

Geplante Besitzstörung in Wien | Kannst Du bitte kurz beschreiben, was “Besitzstörungsfall” bedeutet? Es scheint sich um einen juristischen Fachbegriff aus dem österreichischen Recht zu handeln; das Wort ist mir in Deutschland noch nie untergekommen. Danke. |

what to do with the bookmakers under the pylons in Ghana | For some pylons the mapper has added amenity=bank or amenity=bar instead, so its not only shop=bookmaker. Maybe point the mapper to openinframap.org, where ref # and other parameters on pylons could be shown if they were mapped. But first it is necessary to establish communication with that person. I’m not sure if maps.me users get to see OSM messages, so getting the DWG involved would really help by making sure that the mapper notices something is wrong. |

Mastrick Improvement Plan. | I hope you plan to use Bing imagery and not Bing Maps, as these are copyrighted and we have no permission to use them as source for mapping (as opposed to imagery, where Bing has allowed the use for OSM editing). |
|
Automation of buildings and addresses | I think there are a lot of things missing in this process, e.g. conflation of data with what is in the OSM database already. As OSM has no concept of layers, just importing stuff “over” the existing data is bound to create a mess. For a successful import it is really necessary to follow the import guidelines as set out in osm.wiki/Import/Guidelines |

Editing Activity by Country Since 2020 and the 2021 OSMF Survey | My first edit was in Italy, my most-edited country is the US. I live in Germany. Another method to guess a mappers home country might be to only count changesets that give “survey” as one of the sources. However, in my case that might be Jordan… |
