OK. I've only used aerial imagery (mostly Bing) for the buildings and not referred to LPI at the time. LPI is a tad primitive when it comes to buildings but, as you say, is reasonably good at indicating whether it's a homestead (filled in) or other building (outline).

I checked a few buildings in my area and, from local knowledge, see that two which are marked as homestead are now used as rental properties (and thus residential non-farm house rather than property owner's homestead).

A third building, which is shown as an outline by LPI, is the property owner's residence/homestead.

I should probably re-tag shearing sheds as =farm_auxiliary rather than =shed :-)

At the end of the day, I guess, it comes down to "best effort" tagging.

Interesting.

I'd not come across farm_auxiliary before (I wonder when that got created?). When I looked it up on the wiki just now it suggests building=house can be used for the main farmhouse though building=farm is preferred (as you suggest).

So, in the main, I take your input on board and will adopt those tags though I have generated many =house (residence) and =farm (non-residence building) already in my area over the years :-)

My question to you, then, would be where would you differentiate =house vs. =farm? My own house is just a "normal" house that you'd find on a city block, except it's in a 100 acre paddock. And when it comes to 5-acre "lifestyle" blocks out of town, for example, is that just a large house block (thus =house), or an =farm (though they wouldn't run stock on their block).

Cheers, Gordon

Yes, you're quite correct. It was a vehicle 4WD track at the time we walked it - I've no idea what it's current condition is though. If I had to guess I'd say it's maintained as a fire trail.
