What we interpret as trunk roads in the Philippines maybe different from the UK's description.

For a brief description here's the link:
osm.wiki/WikiProject_Philippines/Mapping_conventions

Recently there is an existing discussion in the OSM-Philippines mailing list regarding this matter:
http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-ph/2010-April/002055.html

I invite you guys to join the mailinglist to discuss tagging conventions we are adopting for the country.

Keep on mapping!

Avelinosk and MTBBCD,

This is maning another pinoy openstreetmapper.

Bacolod data is growing very fast and I commend bacolod contributors for your contributins. However, let us discuss this with cool heads :). I only understand some english and tagalog. I hope we can resolve your issue by agreeing on a consensus rather than reverting each other's edits.

are we becoming a victim of our own success?

@yellowbkpk,
Some way we can easily look and compare whether the source is legitimate. We request contributors to add a source tag, but this is optional. We ask them to upload traces but again, this is optional. It's difficult to determine whether a contribution is legit or not. You have to be very "suspicious" and then turn around and say we respect each and every contribution.

@mcwetboy, copying for copyrighted material without explicit permission

totor is bad

The red lines means these are deleted ways which you can undelete. Last month, there was a contributor who added a lot of data in Bacolod which the author himself admitted to be from a source not compatible with OSM's license.

See this thread:
http://www.mail-archive.com/talk-ph@openstreetmap.org/msg01793.html

If you have been "undeleting" these lines, please do not do it. That data was proven to be tainted with copyright restrictions. Please remove edits coming from these red lines. As for your other edits, we respect them as good ones.

One more thing, please don't label other contributors as simply bad. We had a previous experience from people adding copyrighted data that is why Totor is asking you for traces. OSM community respect and value every contributor.

Do let us know how we can help you. I've been to Bacolod once and I have some friends in the City. One of the friendliest city I've been to btw. :)

OSM-related things to do before March ends

Yay! Baguio gets more love.

2010 Plans for Mapping Marikina City, Philippines

@ robert,
I know and it's inevitable that we map those house numbers.

@ MarikinaValleyDotCom,

That's great to hear! If we can ask the LGU for permission to add the data in OSM. I can help in importing the data.

Polo Obando Bulacan Balagtas Bocaue Meycauayan Marilao

I suggest you subscribe to the osm-ph mailinglist:

Where most Philippine related mapping topics are discussed.

Started editing on Palawan, could need a mentor

I had a brief look at your edits over St. Paul. So far it is good. I believe some trails going to the underground river are actually highway:steps.

There is also a contributor based in Puerto Princesa City proper maybe you can hook up with him.

You can contact him via our mailinglist.

Keep on mapping

should every OSMer be an expert in Geodesy?

> Mapping is not a kiddy thing.
I assume the premise here is "do it right the first time". While we try to always adopt this mantra. OSM was inherently designed with a big "CTRL-Z" anyone can use. That's the essence of a collaborative project.

That being said, we also need "mapping professional" to help out.

NOT mapping Kibera

I think you can still help by improving what they started (i. e. editing unconnected nodes, etc.).

Or, you can divert your energy in improving the Philippines :)

Philippines armchair mapping

> Maybe we should sit in the pub and map the Philippines

Yes please do! We need more people helping out.

A lot of new contributors in the Philippines

I use the same approach, observe if the new mapper comes back. If he/she continues to contribute, that's when I send messages mostly with this content:

1. commending his/her contributions in the specific
2. provide a few tips
3. extend a helping hand (you can ask me)
4. direct them to join the mailinglist

I've observed that most newbies use potlatch so sending them a message via osm website would be the best approach. What I want is to encourage them to join the mailinglist since most Ph discussion happen in the list.

A lot of new contributors in the Philippines

You got the idea :). Since nobody took on the welcoming committee proposal, I decided to just do the invites via diary postings.

Let's see how this goes. But a more organized effort should be better.

Romblon Map Update

Great work! This area needs a lot of love. If you have questions, just ask me. Or better you can subscribe to the osm philippines mailing list

Palawan Philippines - from Puerto Princessa to Elnido

OK then, we have very rough coverage of Cebu at the moment. I added a lot of POIS around the city (mostly banks, fuel, restaurants), from a GPS given by a freind. Hope you can improve the position and streets. If you have questions, just holler at our very own OSM-PH mailinglist http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

Palawan Philippines - from Puerto Princessa to Elnido

totor,

I just saw your edits today. Nice! Welcome to openstreetmap philippine community. I hope you continue editing palawan (not just roads, but also other coastlines, POIs, etc.). Palawan needs a lot of osm love.

We're Back!

Alright! Just added my new changeset via potlatch and now josm.
I miss the josm progress bar message adding every node and way. :)
