Scottish box

Postitas mapryan kuupäeval 17. august 2008 – English.

Anyone know why a big square box has appeared off the north west coast of Scotland?

Also, while I'm asking, I'm curious as to why there are so many German people adding entries? Is the situation with maps the same in Germany as in the UK, ie, a government agency owns all the rights to the maps?

Cheers

Mike

If you click on this map link, you'll need to zoom out a bit to see what I mean

Hi Mike,
The situation in Germany is the same, i.e. you have to buy maps.

Ah, thanks. Did wonder.

There's been a lot of mass media publicity for OSM in Germany recently - hence the upsurge in diary entries. We should really have some way of tagging by language so you don't have to flick through languages you don't understand. :)

You may find that there is a problem with the renderer or the coastline.

As Richard said, the german OpenStreetMap community is fairly active. Fair play to them. Let's map the world!

Indeed. I was curious what it was that was driving the obvious German interest in the project.

There is no privatised Mapping Agency yet in Germany, but it's fun, there are lots of Geocachers, and as already said by others, there has been quite the media coverage (several TV broadcasts, big radiostations, and a *lot* of online coverage)
