Anyone got any idea what that large blue/grey polygon is near Plymouth on the UK map? Is there any need for it to be there?

That looks like a rogue coastline or something. It will probably have been caught by someone already and fixed.

It's a good idea to geotag posts rather than posting an URL to the map.

In this case the polygon is so large that it only appears on lesser zoom levels. Giving coordinates would direct mappers to a location far too precise to illustrate the large scale of the erroneous polygon.
I agree, however, that geotagging is good practice for diary posts. I'm afraid I am limited to Potlatch at the moment (I'm on Mac OSX.3.9) so I'm not particularly familiar with the differing needs and capabilities of JOSM users.

But GeoTagging is not as easy and fast as URL-Posting ;-)
That a funny Bug ;-) But I don't think so that it is right. But when you find mistakes it would be nice if you can mark it here: http://openstreetbugs.appspot.com
When there is one unitary plattform for bugs the Quality of OSm would be much better I think.
