I'm based in Brisbane, Australia.

My GPS devices of choice are a USB-connected Delorme Earthmate (maybe 5 years old now), and more recently an i-gotU logger (2008).

The logger is a much better option as I only need to risk $80 of kit. The old one needed an attached laptop or PDA to run and all sorts of cabling.

When doing my armchair mapping (i.e. tracing Yahoo imagery) I cannot recommend enough the magnifier tool on Windows (or your operating system's equivalent of course). It makes it easy to eke out every last pixel of the imagery.
