Changeset When Comment

I see, so this is imagery that is not available to regular OSM mappers. Please understand that this makes it hard for the community to check your edits. It would help if you could be very specific in attributing your sources in the changeset comments, so the community at least is aware that you have access to aerials that they don't. Could you do that in the future, please?

This is what I see with publicly available imagery:

* [Maxar Premium](https://cloud.rtijn.org/s/mZ6S6Yr9pK8ePHG)
* [Maxar Standard](https://cloud.rtijn.org/s/xi4nPcjQAcEtdF7)
* [Bing](https://cloud.rtijn.org/s/MwNgcNLazJRgrqC)

None of these images show the road as completed. My point is, unless you have some other source like on-the-ground knowledge or some proxy thereof that is publicly available (GPS traces, Mapillary, OSC) these road should be marked as construction. So I think I am missing your reference to what imagery you are using, because I would like to use the same to update the map :)

Oh also, you removed the node for the Sandy Library, and the building containing that node does not have amenity=library, so according to OSM there was no longer a library there. I added amenity=library back to the building feature, but if this is incorrect, feel free to delete it again (i.e. if this is no longer a library)

Hey there, welcome to OSM! A couple of comments on your edits if I may,
First of all, it helps with reviewing if you keep your changes within one changeset geographically contained. Saving (uploading) more often helps with that.
Second, I noticed that you deleted the existing Rice Eccles stadium football pitch and replaced it with a new feature that lacked some of the information the old feature did have (lit=yes, surface=grass_paver) was this intentional?
Thanks and happy mapping,

I looked at both regular and Maxar Premium but neither shows the roads as completed. Could you please share a screenshot that shows the roads are completed and accessible to the public?

74270490 almost 6 years ago

Hi, Maxar Standard imagery does not show these roads as completed yet, if you have another source please specify it in the changeset tags, or mark the road as construction. Thanks.

Yea, those are all good points (pun intended)

I don't feel strongly one way or the other, lately I have resorted more to mapping POI as separate nodes, and I may even have copied some POI info from a building to a node and deleted it from the building, but I realize that is just me trying to impose my mapping style on other people for no good reason..
Thanks for writing back & happy mapping

Adding the POI tags to the building outline instead of keeping a separate node inside the building is okay, but not undisputed. If there's multiple POI inside one building, this tagging style doesn't work. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it this way, I just wanted to make sure you're aware of discussion around this.

When you make a way into a dual-carriageway, please don't forget to adjust the lane count.

Was this business not actually closed then?
I don't know this particular tool but it seems to suggest that someone was on the ground and established that the business has closed.

Thanks for your response!

Looking at the most recent imagery that seems to be available (Bing) it suggests that the roads that are marked as construction on OSM are now open. Something your GPS traces seem to confirm. So I'd mark Summit Vista Boulevard as highway=unclassified (doesn't look like service to me)

I am local but not local 'enough' to quickly go out there and check the situation myself, unfortunately.

Do you upload the GPS traces to OSM or make them available to the community some other way? That would be very useful.

Can you confirm that the roads this service road connects to in OSM are no longer under construction, but completed?

Does the nickname apply to the entire trail? If that's the case, you should select the way that represents the trail and add a 'local_name' tag with that value. Let me know if you need assistance.

Hi,
Thanks for contributing to OSM.
You marked the entire block as building=hotel for Grand America as well as Little America. Please only use building=hotel for the actual building outline. Thank you!

I was also wondering what data you based your change on?

You actually deleted a chunk of northbound Bangerter highway.. Please be careful when working on complex intersections especially when they involve major highways. I fixed the situation in osm.org/changeset/73387432. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Reemal,
This intersection was recently updated from an at-grade intersection to a freeway style intersection with on and off ramps. Was that what you were trying to represent here? Are you still working on this? Right now, it looks like you diverted the main southbound roadway to be the ramp. I will help complete this work based on recent OpenStreetCam images I took. Thanks for your work on the SLC area!

If you're referring to osm.wiki/United_States_Roadway_Classification_Guidelines -- it's stated at the top of that page that this is not an official guideline. In fact, there is no clear consensus in the US OSM community about road classification, and lacking that, I would ask you to take a cautious approach and discuss these changes on the talk-us mailing list or on the OSM US Slack channel. Thanks!

Hi us89,
I'm noticing you're making some pretty impactful changes to road classification in Utah. I think this warrants some discussion. What documented OSM conventions are you following when making these changes? Are you looking at other states to inform your changes? Let's discuss.
