Specialized mappers

Skrive av mvexel 5 oktober 2022 på English

From time to time, I come across mappers that really specialize on a specific mapping topic. I was doing some random mapping in my state when I came across this very well mapped school:

school well mapped

This mapper, Chef7, has mapped lots of schools across the United States in high detail:

I love it when I see mappers who are very specialized in a particular topic! I myself are more of a random mapper, whenever I notice something that needs improving I do it. We need both kinds!

Have you seen any other mappers that are highly specialized? Are you one yourself? Please share your work!

I map a lot of things, nothing in particular. I’ve spent a great deal of time on this high-resolution landcover in the Chiricahua Mountains: https://www.osm.org/#map=13/31.8655/-109.3052

I also love to map schools : Politecnico di Milano1 Politecnico di Milano 2 (some building with indoor mapping)

shopping centre (with indoor mapping): Il Globo Torri Bianche

hospitals: Vimercate

teme park:Etnaland

and research centre: Virgo(gravity interferometer), CIRA(aerospace research centre)

so everything that can be mapped from a good resolution aerial image but I like also random mapping

i mapped them years ago so probably I’m hidden in the chronology xD

I also love than mappers collecting data in very detail level. It’s so cool.

I love the theme park @Aury88!

The indoor mapping is pretty impressive too. I never figured out how to do it. Are there tools that make it easier?

@mvexel: I don’t know…maybe…

I used JOSM and its filtering system.

ah! 9 yrs ago I also loved to map every single ancient wall in the archeological site of Ostia Antica xD

I recently visited Ostia Antica and was highly impressed by the level of detail, so I wrongly assumed it was possibly an import of an official archeological dataset 😀

I map many stuff but thinking about my specialization I would say: campgrounds with group_only=yes (the brown ones on OpenCamingMap) :)

I also spent a couple of years mapping senior high schools in Ghana.

I’m now focused on mapping universities in Ghana in high detail, starting from my own Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Hi

I’ve spend couple of months to map many power substations in France osm.org/way/179260933 osm.org/way/89034196 osm.org/way/82741307

With power stuff but also 450 trees, 422.3 hectares of grasslands, parkings… 16% of major French substations is covered with grass osm.org/user/InfosReseaux/diary/392777

Me, I love making maps of the areas I know with a very high degree of accuracy. I try to tag whatever I can.
