Great to hear that people are mapping these. It would be well worth contacting WSCC using this form: http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/ccm/content/environment/the-west-sussex-countryside/public-rights-of-way/user-feedback-form.en to report any missing bridleway signs. Which reminds me I need to report a broken sign for a footpath near my house. I'll do that now...

On that subject, if you find any rights of way in a bad state of repair (eg impassible on foot because of mud) when you're mapping, it's an ideal opportunity to report it as you can mark in your tracklog exactly where the problem is. Perhaps this could be used to help give OSM positive to councils, who could, if they wished, supply a lot of very useful data to OSM.

that should have read "give OSM a positive image" oops.

Hi Dave. Mapping the offroad stuff is far more fun than endless rabbit warren housing estates ;) . I've seen that WSCC feedback link before: last time I tried to use it to report a blocked RoW it was broken, but admittedly that was some months ago...

Really? That surprises me as I've used the reporting forms on their website a number of times, never had any problems.
