author name in JOSM

Publicat per nyem el 21 Juliol 2008 en English.

OK, as bro sabre23t insisted I might start putting something on my diary. Here's an issue that I'd like to highlight.

Part of my workflow to create routable map via mapcenter2 is to have the tiles loaded in JOSM for validation checking. Some nodes created by sabre23t in Potlatch are detected as 'duplicated nodes' by JOSM validating tools. When I clicked on the fix button and upload the changes, JOSM shows my name as the author of those ways. I don't want that as others, especially new users, might think that I'm so crazy for recognition to have my name on ways created by them.

I wish those ways maintained the original author's name, or maybe list out all the people who have edited that ways. Showing the last person that made some minor changes might give a different idea to some people. Or maybe JOSM should rename the label as 'Last Editor' instead 'Author'.

I'll wait and see if osmarender shows my name or sabre23t - osm.org/?lat=3.03693&lon=101.43229&zoom=17&layers=0B0FTF

It'll show the last editor. The full history for each object is available from the API (and also the Data layer on the OSM main page), so if anyone is really interested they can find out what happened, and who actually created the way in the first place. Doing this automatically for each way would be a big performance hit, which is why nothing does.

Thanks for the clarification. Osmarender correctly displays the author of the ways.

Mmm ... Did I insist? I thought I suggested. Hehe. ;-}

Now I see how to look for who edits the named ways in osmarender on OSM. Looking at this area, I'm thinking of editing that Jalan Raya Barat into a single way. The divider is so small and have opening for every junction, that I believe better just one way is better for mapping it. Regarding routable IMG map via Mapcenter2, how do you get turn restrictions into OSM?

The existence of the divider means that we can't physically turn right anywhere along the road. Making it a single way will make routing software assume that we can make a turn if the intended target is on the other side of the road. If we know there's a divider I'd prefer if we split the road to prevent incorrect suggestions by routing software. You don't want to be driving behind some guy who suddenly decides to turn right on a divided ways, do you?

Turn restrictions are handled by relations and I haven't actually quite grasp the idea on how to tag them. Now that Liosha's osm2mp v0.52 has some support of it I might do some experiment and see how it got generated by mapcenter2. You can also have a go at it, and give me a shout if mapcenter2's maps need to be updated.
