No problem at all! I'm based in Salem and always happy to help or chat, I'm also in the OSM US Slack and OSM World Discord chat channels.

Thanks for contributing! Can I ask a personal favor, that new parking lots traced from satellite imagery get tagged with the type (usually surface) and surface (usually asphalt) as well as access (usually customers or public or private) and fee (yes or no) if you know it? These are common validator questions that get asked by things like StreetComplete, and it's usually pretty easy to enter than info just by glancing at the imagery.

Thanks again and happy mapping!

Hi there! Thanks for contributing. Please use meaningful changeset descriptions so others know what you're intending to do when they review your changes. Even "park tweaks" is more informative than "updates." Thanks again!

Gotcha! Do you know what the convention is among PNW cyclists for local bike routes, do we consider sharrows enough or 🚲↗️5mi signage or some kind of official route on a website to be the bar? There's a ton of sharrows in the city so I want to proceed correctly

Hey there! I see a local bike route mapped here, but I'm not sure if it's a formal route vs just bike lanes. Do you have any info on this?

Thank you for your contributions! Please remember to write a relevant description in your changeset comments. It helps others review your work and helps you find what you've done if you ever need to refer back to past work.

Cheers! By the way I'm doing a bunch of work on Organic Maps (and addresses in Salem) and I notice that Portland has really good address coverage. If you'd like to collab a bit to make Organic Maps (and thus OSM) better for Willamettians, I'm happy to!

FYI this changeset had all of Salem Civic Center as bicycle=yes however "It shall be unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle in or upon the Salem Civic Center described in SRC 102.005. This section shall not apply to three-wheeled bicycles ridden by a handicapped or elderly person." I'm fixing.

Please remember to mark waterways as tunnels (or crossing roads as bridges) when mapping!

143511897 over 1 year ago

Hi! This is not a building passage and doesn't need to be a tunnel because the road overhead is already a bridge. I suggest you revert this change unless you have some other good reason for tagging State Street as a building passage.

Hi there! There's no need to create a new node for a building especially when there's already a building at the location. Generally, buildings should be mapped as rectangles and not just points: osm.org/node/11295987652

Hi there! Please avoid tagging explicitly for golf video games, etc, when it doesn't make sense. At the top here we have a rough and a building tagged on what is obviously a traffic island and a lamppost. Even if you're just trying to play an accurate game of golf, it's still inaccurate to be tagging stuff beyond the playing field. If the game doesn't know how to interpret lampposts and grass but you want them to appear, file a bug with the game author don't mangle the map.

Hiya! I've been removing many drive thru names in the area, but there are a few really oddball drive thrus like this one and the Habanero's one next to it that are not obvious at all and easy for someone to enter accidentally or struggle to find without a name. So in this case "turn left onto The Chicken Shanty Drive Thru" with accompanying highlighted map is something I think would be valuable above and beyond what would be typical and obvious in most situations. (I've used this drive thru to get out to the main road in the past, for example, because of how it's positioned, but now there will be someone expecting me to place an order haha.)

Yes per the Greyhound website and a phone call with them, Greyhound branded buses stop "outside of the buffalo exchange" and the map marker indicates this corner of the parking lot, even though Buffalo has closed and there's no signage here. It's called the "bus stop." The stop at the train station is still part of their network but only handles other-branded buses. Don't ask me why lol

Hi, the road is Ioli Ranch with an I, please double check and avoid awkward names like Loli. I'm fixing it so there's no action required, just FYI. Thanks for being an OSM contributor!

Hi ramijcr, thank you for your contributions! I see you've changed County Road 317A to be Southwest 44th Way however I see no evidence of this on the ground. County GIS lists these houses as having "County Road 317A" addresses and street-level imagery from 2011 and Feb 2023 show this road signed as "CR 317A." Can you confirm?

52768396 over 2 years ago

Hi Denis! In this changeset you tagged a bunch of houses as being on "Winifred Pool" street, however county data and street level imagery says these houses are on "Winifred Way." Does that sound right to you?
