Changeset When Comment

Hi, I just stumbled across this changeset, out of curiosity, why would you remove sac_scale?

Hi, I've just discovered some wrong FHRS IDs that were added in this changeset e.g. osm.org/node/3402048918 and osm.org/node/2396871201

I wonder what's happened here - were they connect when you added them and the business changed its FHRS ID since? Or something else?

I also looked into whether there's open data for the coastline or the low water mark, the way there is for the UK, but that doesn't seem to exist for Jersey

Sounds good! Esri Wayback, available as a layer in Rapid, seems useful for this because it has imagery taken at various points in the tidal cycle. So my plan was to use imagery taken at (relatively) high tide for the coastline, and imagery taken at (relatively) low tide for the natural= features (wetland, bare rock, sand etc) That will just be based on whenever the picture happened to be taken but better to look at a few points than just one I suppose! Let me know if you know of a better way

Btw the coastline is almost definitely wrong here (much lower than mean high water). I'm still planning to fix that when I get the chance. So far I've only added names around the Minquiers

Hi, thanks for adding seamark tags around the Minquiers. I noticed you also changed place=islet on osm.org/way/1138719052 to place=island. But according to the Wiki, island is only meant for islands with at least 1km2 size. So I hope you don't mind if I change it back?

Hi, should the path alongside Piers Gill really be marked as difficult_alpine_hiking? The Wasdale MRT Facebook post is about people accidentally following the bed of the gill, isn't it? Whereas osm.org/way/283419527
is the path described on https://www.wmrt.org.uk/advice/accident-black-spots/piers-gill-scafell-pike/ as "narrow difficult path". I haven't walked it, so I can't judge its difficulty, but T6 seems very high?

Oh and the width between planters is also something we could tag (maxwidth:physical), hopefully that should make it clear to a clever cycle router that this isn't really a route you'd use unless you have to

Hi, you might want to weigh in here: osm.org/changeset/156133552

Hi, thanks for flagging this with review_requested. I don’t think we should delete the highway=pedestrian segment, because that will break pedestrian routing. Pedestrians can still walk from Leith Walk to Iona Street, so they should be connected.

Bicycle access is indeed awkward because of the kerbs and planters, but as far as I know it’s legal: the sign at the end of Iona Street is no motor vehicles, not no entry. Surely this is on purpose?

That’s why I added the barrier=kerb, kerb=raised node but left GinaroZ’s bicycle=designated on the highway=pedestrian alone. We could weaken “designated” to “yes”. Another thing we can do on the tagging side is adding the planters (barrier=planter).

Which navigation app was suggesting that you cycle there? We could ask them to avoid routing bicycles over a high kerb where possible.

I've mapped it now. Please let me know if you are having any issues - in that case, we should figure out if the fault lies with the data or the app you are using before editing the data
