Hi OSM folks,

Yesterday I finished mapping West Virginia’s forest landcover for OSM in 5 years! It was a big project and definitely the next one will be a bigger one but because of that I’m gonna do it in a pace that I can maintain. If I have to stop, then I stop. Well, it’s just a hobby for me. As I announced on Mapping USA, I’m mapping Pennsylvania from now on. I’m really interested in the history of that state, The Keystone State.

And yes, I just wanted to try myself out how I could map forest landcover outside of Europe. It seems everyone seems hyped and I like this!

I’m not a robot so I can’t work on it 24/7 due to my personal life and I know i’m not making a 100% accurate landcover, but hey, I learnt some tricks which I’m taking advantage of! Sometimes I also criticise the quality I do but well people usually improve as time flies.

I’d like to thank everyone in the OSM community for giving me help and guidance, and I’m sure I’ll still have questions if it comes to specific areas. :)

Incredible work! Always inspiring. Thanks for writing/mapping/sharing your love of this with us all.

In case folks who find this are similarly gob smacked, here’s the two talks ottwiz gave about the project (maybe there are more??)

Congratulations to your achievement and thanks for all of that hard work. I have mapped land over for some areas as well and it’s quite satisfying seeing the blank canvas getting some color. But I also know how exhaustive it can be.

We simply need more people like you =)

Keep up the good work and don’t burn yourself out. You can map some fire hydrants from time to time to balance things out =)

I believe I speak for many in OSM as I say how deeply your contributions are appreciated. Multi-year, seriously comprehensive data projects like this are not only indicative of how much more our map can be improved by a single Contributor, but how inspiring such endeavors can be to others. By working together, not only do our map data grow, not only do we ourselves grow with the satisfaction and pride of work well done, but we knit together the many fabrics of our beautiful planet (forests, cities, students, volunteers…). Data, people, collaboration, improvement…one checkerboard square of Earth at a time, OSM continues to strengthen us as people together and our data as wonderful, better and better every single day — what a fantastic project!

We celebrate what you have done here, we smile with you, we roll up our sleeves and stand shoulder-to-shoulder, energized to continue with more of our contributions as well, however small or great. Thank you!

Nothing short of jaw-dropping impressive work you’ve done over the past 5 years. The dedication it takes to complete a project of this scale is very inspiring to many mappers out there!!
