January 26,2019: Today in our CWTS++ program is that we had some activities that we did like first we were mapping missing roads in Luzon at the Philippines which we are continuing to map in hot.taskosm.com using ID editor or JOSM to edit. Then we reviewed the previous homework that was assigned to us that needed to find evacuation sites (covered courts, hospitals and town halls) in the city of San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines. After locating those evacuation sites in every barangay we needed to know the population in those barangay then input that data in the map that we created. In case of a disaster occurred this data that we are making will help the people specifically the barangays of San Juan City will be able to know if those evacuation sites are capable of accommodating their barangay population. We were using overpass and umap to know the accurate information we needed and to input what we gathered.
The population of San Juan City is around 122,180 people, this census was around 2015. There are about twenty-one barangays in the city which is divided by two districts. Most evacuation sites can fit around 356 people in it and these are commonly covered courts that are primarily used for sports and leisure which are basketball courts. We searched what are the measurements of a basketball court and what is the minimum space need of a person in a evacuation site for a short period of time which is around one to three days. The data showed that the evacuation sites in every barangay in the city significantly cannot accommodate everyone in the site. Also people that nearby to bodies of water such as rivers may have a different effect than other communities, gas stations are also a factor, population differs in every barangay, denser population and prosperous neighborhoods may not need to go to evacuation sites. I have learned today how to be logical in mapping an area with accuracy by using data, the ability to measure a place if that space is enough to a number of people and how to use data to help people in communities. Basically we were taught how to read and analyze the data we were given and searched so that the information we gather may be used to formulate and create better updated analysis of a specific place that will be beneficial to that selected area.
