My new GPS

Spisany wot phire dnja 3 June 2009 w rěči English.

I orded a cheap bluetooth gps unit off deal extreame ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25563 ) which arrived today.

So it took a while to install bluetooth and gps software to my eeepc, but it works now, and I've taken it for a test run. I plan to use it to map out some of the smaller towns outside christchurch, which don't have airal photo coverage, like leeston and southbridge.

Also, I hope to combine it with my eeepc and some yet to be written custom software to make a sweet gps navigation device. I'm thinking opengl baised real time rendering. I'll continue thinking about it.

if you use linux, try navit. It uses vectorial data, have a gl-based interface and a lot of other features:

Doesn't Merkaator or JOSM have functionality for this ? I was thinking about exactly the same setup today... Realtime drawing/entering data..

Going to make my own navigator device as well, doesn't hurt to combine forces :D

Hello phire, glad to see your comments. I have a Holux GPSSlim240 and an eeePc running ubuntu remix. It has bluetooth and I have managed to get it connected to a bluetooth phone and a Nokia N800 but I am having trouble getting it set up to link to the gps. Any quick tips on how you got it working? Thanks.
