They are not forbidden. I wasn't aware of the multiple tags policy as I'm still learning about how they work. I noticed some of the tags that are only used once in all of osm and seemed that they have clear counterparts that could be updated. Sorry for the confusion. Now I know

Thanks for the tip! I tried reading about it here (osm.wiki/Lifecycle_prefix) and I'm not too sure when to use was:amenity=restaurant vs
disused:amenity=restaurant

Maybe the wiki can be updated with an example?

Hello, I'm relatively new to mapping so maybe I misunderstood. I didn't know we were supposed to check that the sign on the store changed. My reasoning being that since MetroPCS as a brand effectively does not exist they should all be changed. Kinda like if a new restaurant takes over a space but the sign for the old resturant is still out by the street, then just because the sign hasn't changed doesn't mean the business hasn't. Anyway, if that's not the case feel free to revert this.
