Good first edit - it looks like there are a lot of footpaths and cut-throughs between cul-de-sacs in this area that need adding in case you wanted to try doing any more editing...

The added parallel footway isn't necessary here - a bridleway designation by default allows all traversal methods a footway will.

I think you've misunderstood the point of OpenStreetMap. Edits to the map are globally visible, much like edits to wikipedia - it's not intended for personal geographical notes.

If you click on one of the corner "points" along the footway (these are called "nodes") it should open up a circular menu, one option of which should be a pair of scissors. This will split the way. If you don't have a node at exactly the place you want to do the split, double clicking anywhere on the line should create a new one at that point.
