Consider Dearborn as a bike route between 55th street and 59th street. One block west, Fairmont is marked as a bike path. There is a large hill on Fairmont at 55th. pedaling to climb that hill is difficult especially north bound with the apex of the hill at the intersection. From the south, Dearborn, through the park, over the bridge and out through the parking lot is a much easier route to pedal. Also the traffic patterns on 55th street make it easier to cross 55th from the ping lot to Benton Avenue.

There is a paved path from the south east corner of the parking lot to the lake.

This underpass is closed until 12/31/2026.

from Cook County Forest Preserves: ALERT 05/01/2023 - 12/31/2026: Due to Illinois Tollway construction of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), a segment of the Salt Creek Trail System (Red Paved) than runs underneath the bridge (between Ogden Ave and 31st St) will be closed until August. Intermittent trail and waterway closures may also occur through 2026 for the safety of work crews and trail visitors. No detour is provided. Paddlers may still proceed with caution.
