I started working on @osmthis twitter account which allows to post any geotagged tweets to OSM as notes. For instance, it’s possible to use skitch/twitter to publish photos of cafe bills. These bills usually contain usable information as the cafe’s address, phone, website etc. To use it you just need to mention @osmthis in your tweet.
Examples:
- https://twitter.com/sashazykov/status/459576876395028480 -> osm.org/note/156665
- https://twitter.com/sashazykov/status/460662527945232386 -> osm.org/note/158563
This project is OpenSource. You can find it at github.

Looks very good, I’ll add this to the Mapping Botswana guide for example!

Because the tweet is not geotagged. There are several non-geotagged tweets in logs. @osmthis needs to answer with an error message to these tweets, but this feature is not ready yet.

I see, thought the geo-tagging could be read from image, my mistake :)

Sounds great. But just tried it, what am I doing wrong. I’m @rps333 on Twitter. Cheers.

Rps333: Your tweets are protected. Probably, it will be enough if you follow @osmthis, though I am not sure. We also need to allow sending tweets using direct messages. I will add this to todo list.

Hi,
I just found this site and it sounds great to me. I agree, sending tweets using DMs is neccessary and in my view should be a high priority. I for myself would use twitter to add information to osm notes, but I don’t want to bother my followers with these tweets. Can you give an estimate, when this possibility will be available?
Cheers, Nuffy

Nuffy, you don’t need to bother your followers. If a tweet begins with “@osmthis” only those friends who follow both you and @osmthis will see it.

I’m feeling old … I’m using Twitter now for about a year, but didn’t know that … Thanks for the information.

The server was down and I hadn’t noticed it. It should be working now. Sorry for troubles.
